artSIG version 2.2 (March 26, 2003)

This version reverses the Terms of Service change described below and add several new features.

Details of Terms of Service change

The section below describes a change to the Terms of Service. This change has been withdrawn in this release. Under the new policy, users will be free to delete works, discussions, and articles at any time. Users may also edit or delete any contribution within an hour of its being submitted. Critiques and replies may not be deleted after the first hour.

New or improved features

  • Critics now receive three points for each helpful rating they receive if they write one of the first three qualified critiques for any work.
  • Users are now limited to submitting four works every three days for Premium Members and one submission every three days for Basic Members. Users may temporarily increase their quota by writing critiques. See the Submit Work page for more details.
  • The Neglected Works and Random Works pages now work properly. There is also a new Hot Works page.
  • artSIG is now using the new 3.0.6 version of the MySQL connector, which the MySQL connector team estimates is 50-100% faster than the old 2.0.14 version.

Bug fixes

  • The reply count for the forum is now updated correctly when a reply is saved.
  • Overlapping table cells in the work critiques lists have been fixed.
  • Fixed the error that appeared if the user entered the wrong account name or password.

artSIG version 2.1 (March 20, 2003)

Some bugs were fixed and some features added to this version.

Major Terms of Service change

The Terms of Service have been updated to no longer require users to agree to allow artSIG to retain thumbnails of their works.

Instead, when a work is submitted, a user may choose to make the work committed or uncommitted. A work that is committed may be edited or deleted within one hour of its being submitted, but may only be withdrawn and replaced with a thumbnail after that point. A work that is uncommitted may be deleted by the user at any time.

The status of the work, either committed or uncommitted, is displayed along with the rest of the work details on the view work page. Critics may choose to refrain from writing critiques for uncommitted works, since those works, and their critiques, may be deleted at any time.

A work may be freely changed between committed and uncommitted within one hour of its being submitted. After one hour, the work may be changed from uncommitted to committed, but not vice-versa.

As part of this change, the window of time in which critiques, discussions, and replies may be edited has also been reduced to one hour. The edit window for these types of contributions used to be 72 hours, but that was mainly in order to be consistent with the edit window for works.

New or improved features

  • Mail forwarding now properly handles <BR> tags in the message.
  • Format of work critiques pages improved.
  • An icon now indicates a new work, critique, discussion, reply, or mail message.
  • HTML filter now strips out unallowed tag attributes, closes unterminated quoted attribute values, and adds missing end tags.
  • artSIG News forum integrated with the main page.

Bug fixes

  • Various typos fixed.
  • Premium membership page no longer displays non-existent fax number.
  • Complimentary pass activation page no longer claims that it is sending the user a Premium Membership pass code if the complimentary pass is for a Basic Membership.
  • Clicking continue on complimentary pass activation page without entering a name or email address now generate the proper error messages.
  • The relevance qualifier had a bug and was not working; it has been fixed.
  • The works filter now correctly filters user works and user portfolio pages.
