Taken at a recent corporate function. When direct afternoon sunlight is your only option, WHAT THEN? Thanks in advance

Gosh, what can I say other than pretty well everything camera related is a problem. The framing is ok, though the man in back intrudes. To the camera work, absolutely nothing is in focus. Well, the shoulder is somewhat in focus so my guess is the shutter speed you used was too slow and motion blur took over. That or you tried to shoot too quickly, before the camera made clean focus and a correct exposure. The direct sunlight doesn't appear to be harsh enough to fool the sensor. One can tell, though that the man is very careful with the baby.
